Writer Anne Lamont tells the story of an Alaskan bush pilot who was complaining bitterly to a bartender about his loss of faith in God. “ I no longer believe in God. It is a @$#!! lie !” he exclaimed with venom in his language and voice. “What happened to cause this?” the bartender asked. The pilot told how he crashed his plane and lay there, freezing, starving, begging for God to come and rescue him and God never showed up. “But you did get rescued, you are here” the bartender pointed out. “Well yeah” the pilot said. How often do we miss the miraculous in the mundane? How many prayers does He answer, but because He used someone or something outside of our expectation we miss it. God’s fingerprints are all over our lives, if we just knew how to see them.
Some of you have entertained angels unaware, the New Testament writer said. “Surely God is in this place, and I knew it not” said the Old Testament patriarch.
God is continuously doing the miraculous in our lives and all around us. We simply must learn to recognize Him when He shows up in His many guises. Look for God in your life this week..
